The University of Eastern Finland is a young, dynamic and international university. In 2011 it was the most cited university in Finland by international comparison (Lleiden ranking). The University of Eastern Finland is home to about 15 000 students and 2 800 staff members. The well-being of students is among the primary concerns of the university and, in addition to the high standard of teaching, the university offers its students a modern study environment, which is under constant development.
Forest sciences is one of the university's four strategic areas into which it invests resources. The School of Forest Sciences is an international research and teaching unit focusing on forests, wood and environmental issues. Internationally recognised scientific research forms a solid basis for tuition, which in turn produces experts for the forest and environment sectors all over the world.
The School of Forest Sciences is located on the Joensuu campus, which is also home to the European Forest Institute EFI and the Joensuu unit of Natural Resources Institute Finland, with which the School works in close cooperation.
