The Unit of Oncology is part of the Institute of Clinical Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The Unit of Oncology enjoys close co-operation with the Cancer Centre within Kuopio University Hospital. In addition to the University personnel, also the specialist clinicians participate actively in our teaching programmes.
The Unit of Oncology provides teaching for Finnish Medical Student in the final year of their clinical studies. Teaching is also given earlier during the studies; then it is integrated with other medical specialties and also in conjunction with some other Faculties of University of Eastern Finland. Every year, several foreign medical students take part in the oncology teaching course.
The Unit of Oncology is one of the five University centres for specialist training in Oncology in Finland. Specialization in Oncology is a five-year programme of which a minimum of two years must be undertaken in a University Hospital.

NOTE! Before a student can qualify for specialist training he/she must possess the State Authorisation to Practice Medicine in Finland.
