Registration instructions for undergraduate students already enrolled at the University of Eastern Finland - academic year 2017-2018
Registration at the university comes under the provisions of the Universities Act (558/2009).
These instructions concern students who are enrolled at the University of Eastern Finland and are studying for a lower and/or higher university degree.
Academic year and registration period
The academic year at the University of Eastern Finland begins on 1 August and ends on 31 July. All students must register for each academic year either as being present or absent. Students who fail to register at the university during the registration period will lose their right to study and their information will be removed from the university registers. Students who have been removed from the university registers must re-apply for admission.
Students who are already enrolled at the university should register for the academic year 2017-2018 between 2 May and 15 September 2017.
Students should register electronically in WebOodi and pay the Student Union membership fee upon registering as being present. The payment can be made online through PayTrail via several Finnish banks or with a credit card. You can also print out a payment form with which you can pay the fee at your bank. Also registrations as being absent should be done in WebOodi.
Below you will find instructions on how to register in WebOodi.
Registration as being present
Do as follows:
- Log in to WebOodi
- To register in WebOodi, go to the left side bar and click the Tools -> Annual registration links. The registration involves 4 stages and each of the stages has instructions.
Stage 1: Check your personal data and the conditions for giving out student information. Correct any errors you might discover and tick the box next to the sentence "I have checked my information and the conditions for giving out student information". Select the semesters for which you wish to register. Those wishing to register for the full academic year should select both the semesters. Then click the Register button.
Stage 2: A form for the payment of the Student Union membership fee will now appear on the screen. In addition to the compulsory membership fee, you can also choose to pay optional fees (developmental cooperation project or delivery of the student magazine to your home address). See "Student Union Membership and Membership Fees" below.
Stage 3: Registration with online banking codes or a credit card: Check the payment form and click the Continue button to be forwarded to PayTrail.
OR Registration without online banking codes or a credit card: To view the payment form, click the Print the Membership Fee Form button.
Stage 4: Registration with online banking codes: After you have made the payment in your online bank, you will get a confirmation of your registration and your registration will be entered in the university's registers immediately. However, even if your register before the beginning of the academic year, your registration status in WebOodi (present /absent) will not be updated until 1 August.
OR Registration without online banking codes: Print out the payment form and make the payment at your (Finnish) bank. Check that the sum is correct and remember to use your personal reference number indicated on the form. Your payment will not be transferred automatically from your bank to the student register. You should send a receipt of your payment to email@example.com so that Student Services can update your registration status manually.
- Get the semester sticker for your student card at the Student Union.
Student union membership and membership fees
The Student Union (ISYY) is responsible for looking after the students' interests and it also handles the semester stickers for the student card. The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) operates on three campuses.

- Savonlinna office: Kuninkaankartanonkatu 7, 57101 Savonlinna, tel. +358 44 576 8430. Open Mon-Thu 10–14 (10am–2pm) and Fri 10–13 (10am–1pm).
Payment of the Student Union (ISYY) membership fee is compulsory for all students pursuing a lower and/or higher university degree. The membership fee for the full academic year is €126 and €65 for the autumn or spring semester each. The membership fee should be paid in WebOodi upon registration. The fee can be paid using your online banking codes. If you don't have the required online banking codes, you can print out a payment form from WebOodi. Sport fees can be paid at Student Union offices.
Registration as being absent
It is also possible to register at the university as being absent. Students registering as being absent will not take any courses or sit any exams during the semester/academic year in question. Students who have registered as being absent will not pay the Student Union membership fee and thus are not entitled to any student benefits. Students registering as being absent should also register within the registration period.
It is possible to change the registration status from absent to present at any time during the academic year. In this case you must pay the Student Union membership fee and present the payment receipt at Student and Learning Services. For bank account details and your personal reference number, please contact Student and Learning Services (see contact information at the end of these instructions).
When registering as being absent, please pay attention to the regulations on duration of study rights. Read more on normative durations of study and the target times for completing a degree.
Do as follows:
- Log in to WebOodi
- To register in WebOodi, go to the left side bar and click the Other -> Term registration links.
- Check your personal data and the conditions for giving out student information and tick the box next to the sentence "I have checked my information and the conditions for giving out student information". Then select the semesters for which you wish to register as being absent. Those wishing to register for the full academic year should select both the semesters. Then click the Register button.
- You will get a confirmation of your registration.
You can also register as being absent by sending an email or calling Student and Learning Services. Remember to give your name and student number when registering as being absent by email.
Students who were accepted to start their studies in the autumn semester 2016 and registered as being absent for their first academic year
Students who were admitted to study in the previous academic year and who have registered as being absent for their first year of study should register similarly to new students.
Registration for the spring semester
The registration period for the spring semester only is from 1 December 2017 to 15 January 2018, and the registration should be done in WebOodi (see "Registration as Being Present" or "Registration as Being Absent"). The Student Union membership fee for the spring semester is €65. Registration for the spring semester in WebOodi concerns those students who have registered only for the autumn semester. If there is no information of registration for the autumn semester 2017, the student will have to re-apply for admission.
Failing to register
A student who fails to register during the registration period will be removed from the university registers and he or she will need to re-apply for admission as a student using a separate form. The student will also be charged a re-registration fee (€35) in addition to the Student Union membership fee (the collection of the re-registration fee is stipulated in the Ministry of Education decree 1082/2009).
