The project is funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The project is implemented by University of Eastern Finland.

Objectives.
The project will build a research, training and development laboratory focusing on the development of the latest battery technologies and materials at UEF. In general, the project responds to the challenges of the green transition and specifically to the needs of the local economy in relation to the wider use of renewable energy and the commercial exploitation of technical solutions. This is essentially linked to the research and development of the latest battery technologies and the training of experts in this field.

Measures.
The project will include the establishment of battery testing laboratory, which gather the existing coin cell battery manufacturing and testing equipment at different UEF departments updated with pouch cell manufacturing and testing equipment relevant for industrial collaboration. The batteries larger than the coin cells are based on pouch cells, so it is essential to be able to perform the tests on a real scale for the company relevance. This also applies to students and researchers undergoing training. The laboratory will be built into a functional entity for both research and training needs. In addition, the project will create a close foundation for industrial cooperation, for example, in order to create places for piloting and prepare MSc and PhD thesis.

Results.
The project will result in a multi-purpose battery testing laboratory at UEF, which will be used for collaboration with companies, the engineer training and strengthening of applied research. The results are the joint projects with industry, new engineers specialised in batteries and new potential for innovation.
