FINGENIOUS serves as gateway to biospecimens and health data

The Biobank of Eastern Finland is making biobank research increasingly easy and fast. Through the FINGENIOUS service offered by the Finnish Biobank Cooperative (FINBB), all six Finnish hospital biobanks can now be reached by completing just one feasibility and access request. FINGENIOUS helps both academics and businesses to investigate the availability of biobank samples and related data.

FINGENIOUS is a Finnish Biobank Cooperative (FINBB) service that allows researchers to approach all hospital biobanks using one access request. Through FINGENIOUS, feasibility results covering all of Finland’s hospital biobanks are available within 2-3 weeks.

Participating in FINGENIOUS are the Biobank of Eastern Finland, Auria Biobank, Helsinki Biobank, the Biobank of Central Finland, Biobank Borealis and the Finnish Clinical Biobank Tampere.

The goal of FINGENIOUS is to make the work of researchers simpler, to improve research and product development, and to enhance Finland’s competitiveness as a research environment. The standard of biobank research in Finland is exceptionally high, with a vast collection of samples and data.

With FINGENIOUS, it is easy to keep track of how the research process is going and it is transparent. Researchers are able to follow how their project is proceeding in the biobanks in real-time.

Feasibility enquiries and access requests through the service are free of charge for researchers. In feasibility requests that are exceptionally large, the costs will be estimated separately. Researchers will be able to get the estimation of total project costs during the FINGENIOUS feasibility report and access request process.

The Biobank of Eastern Finland is founded and owned by the North Savo Hospital Districts, the South Savo Social and Health Care Authority, Siun Sote – the Joint Municipal Authority for North Karelia Social and Health services, the Eastern Savo Hospital District, and the University of Eastern Finland.

The service is available at ita-suomenbiopankki.fi and at www.fingenious.fi
