Atomic-level understanding of the rubber-brass adhesion and the effect of additives

Public examination of a doctoral dissertation in the field of Chemistry
Doctoral candidate: MSc Chian Ye Ling
Date and venue: 24.4.2020 at 12 noon, online https://stream.lifesizecloud.com/extension/1978135/0acf4fc3-c0b8-4f02-bd10-6508ae113fd7
Language of the dissertation and the public examination: English

Rubber–brass adhesion has high importance in practical applications like tire production. A detailed understanding of the adhesion is essential to enhance rubber–brass interaction for better performance. MSc Chian Ye Ling’s thesis focuses on the adsorption of rubber adsorbate models on ZnS, CuxS and ZnO surfaces to study the role of rubber functional groups and the effect of different dopants at atomic level. The results can be used in practical applications for optimum enhancement of the rubber-brass adhesion.

The doctoral dissertation of MSc Chian Ye Ling, entitled Atomic-level understanding of the rubber-brass adhesion and the effect of additives will be examined at the Faculty of Science and Forestry. The opponent in the public examination will be Professor Jouni Pursiainen, University of Oulu, and the custos will be Professor Emeritus Tapani Pakkanen, University of Eastern Finland.
