Introduction to the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies is a multidisciplinary and research-driven scientific community. The faculty carries out research and offers education in social sciences, business studies, the humanities, environmental sciences and health sciences. The faculty’s staff comprises a total of 350 members.

Today, approximately 4000 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students and 1000 postgraduate students are studying at the five departments and two research institutes of the faculty.

Faculty's departments and institutes operates on all three campuses of the University of Eastern Finland as follows:

  • Centre for Tourism Studies - Savonlinna Campus
  • Department of Business - Joensuu and Kuopio Campuses
  • Department of Health and Social Management - Kuopio Campus
  • Department of Historical and Geographical Sciences - Joensuu Campus
  • Department of Law - Joensuu Campus
  • Department of Social Sciences - Joensuu and Kuopio Campuses
  • Karelian Institute - Joensuu Campus

Administration of the faculty is carried out by the Faculty Council, Dean and Administration Service Centre. Administration Service Centre also operates in all three campuses.
