Master's theses

The Procedure Concerning the Evaluation of Master’s Theses

The student should issue two printed and stapled copies of his/hers master’s thesis to

- Ms Tuula Honkanen, theses in business on Joensuu Campus (visiting address: Aurora building, 2104)
- Ms Taru Kontkanen, theses in other subjects on Joensuu Campus (visiting address: Aurora building, 2102)
- Ms Sari Hakaoja, all the theses on Kuopio Campus (visiting address: Kotkankallionkatu 14C/Teletie 6, 70600 Kuopio)

Additionally the student shall send his/hers thesis in pdf-format to either of the persons above to be archived and published. The student is responsible for that all the copies are identical.

The officials ask the supervisors to propose two examiners for the inspection of the thesis and prepare the decision of assignment. The examiners are assigned by the dean and the student is notified of the decision.

The officials deliver the thesis to the examiners who should give their statement(s) within a month of the assignment. Before the approval of the thesis the student is reserved an opportunity to reply to the statement(s) and he/she should inform whether he/she accepts the statement(s) or wants to interrupt the procedure. If the student accepts the statement(s) the dean decides on the approval of the thesis. On student’s demand or in case the examiners do not agree on the grade the thesis is evaluated by the faculty council. If the student does not approve the statement(s) the procedure is interrupted and the student continues to work on the thesis.

The master’s theses are graded in a seven-step Latin scale as follows: approbatur / lubenter approbatur / non sine laude approbatur / cum laude approbatur / magna cum laude approbatur /eximia cum laude approbatur /laudatur.

The student dissatisfied with the decision may seek rectification of it according to the instructions attached to the letter of decision. The instruction are also available in Intranet of the university >>

Theses are published in pdf-format, if the student has given a permission for e-publishing, which is recommended.

Please, return two (2) copies of the filled and signed permission forms to one of the officials of the Faculty.
