Department of Law | AN INTERNATIONAL STUDY PROGRAMME IN LAWThe International Study Programme in Law is a non-degree study programme taught in English at the Department of Law in the University of Eastern Finland. The programme is intended for both international and Finnish students who wish to familiarise themselves with judicial questions and legal practices. The programme offers a wide variety of courses in the different fields of law, e.g. European Law, International Public and Commercial Law, Comparative Law and Environmental Law. Duration of the International Study Programme in Law is one academic year. However, it is also possible to enroll for only one semester. To obtain a certificate, students must complete at least 25 ECTS credits of the offered law courses. The course Introduction to Legal Studies and Finnish Legal System (J007006) is compulsory for all students enrolled in the International Study Programme in Law, other courses can be chosen freely according to student's own interests. It is also possible to complete courses in other international study programmes of the University of Eastern Finland. International students must have completed at least one year of university studies in order to be eligible for the study programme. Successful completion of the programme requires that the applicant has a good command of English. Proficiency in English can be demonstrated e.g. by TOEFL (550/ paper-based test, 213/ computer-based test), IELTS or CPE (5.5) or by other certificates accepted by the Department of Law. Students on bilateral exchanges or exchange programmes such as ERASMUS, FIRST, ISEP or NORDLYS are not required to demonstrate their language skills in English. During the academic year 2010-2011, the tuition fee will be 3500 € for the whole academic year and 1750 € for a single semester for the visiting students. The fees must be paid before the registration. However, all students on bilateral exchanges or exchange programmes mentioned above are exempted from the tuition fee.
