Teacher Training

Teacher training schools are administratively part of the faculties of education,  they apply educational theory and know-how in practice. Close connections between student teachers, teacher trainers and university lecturers are crucial to the constant development of our supervised teaching practice.

Relevant research is applied in practice at all stages of the supervised teaching practice. Introductory phases concentrate on developing student teachers’ knowledge of pupils and various teaching and digital environments. Minor subject practicums concentrate on limited subject areas and didactical skills, whereas major subject practicums apply theories of teaching comprehensively.

The unique Finnish teacher education system has won acclaim for its high quality worldwide. Class teachers, special educational needs teachers and student counsellors are required to have a Master’s Degree in education sciences in Finland. All subject teachers have a Master’s Degree, their qualifications comprising pedagogical studies and supervised teaching practice, in addition to studies in major and minor subjects.
