Description
Xenobiotic metabolism plays a critical role in the elimination of foreign compounds in the body. Usually metabolism results in ending the effects of drugs or toxic compounds, but often the same system causes them to become active and toxic.

Projects
The xenobiotic metabolism research group at the School of Pharmacy has three main research projects:
1) Structure-activity relationships of cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes
2) Bioactivation reactions catalyzed by CYP enzymes
3) Function and regulation of selected CYP enzymes in placenta
