  • The project organized the second writing workshop for the project researchers in Nehvo Guard House August, 2018. Jaago gave the presentation "After the War and Repressions: An Autobiographical View of Traumatic Experiences in Parent-Child Relationships", and Kurki gave the presentation "Trauma Language in Literature at the Finnish Russian Borderlands".

  • From November 14 to December 14, Tuulikki Kurki visited University of Carleton, Ottawa.
  • 7th November, 2017, the project organized a Trauma Concept workshop. The workshop discussed the concept of trauma through concept clusters. These clusters were: trauma, guilt, and shame; trauma and silence; and trauma language: humor and grotesque. The workshop included papers from the invited speakers, guided discussion, and group discussions. Download the workshop program here.   • On 5th-6th October, Tarja Tanttu gave presentation "We should not hide behind the bureucratic language - Observations about the usage of the Finnish language and interaction between immigrants and employment officials" in the VIRSU 20 years: jubilee conference "Language in Linguistics, Linguistics in Language Learning" in the Tallinn University.
  • On 27th October Kirsi Laurén gave a presentation "Ylläpidetyt muistot vastarinnan välineenä. Traumaattiset kertomukset neuvostopartisaanien hyökkäyksistä jatkosodan aikana". The commentator was Ville Kivimäki (University of Turku). Research seminar of the Finnish Literature Society. 
  • From September to November Saija Kaskinen visited the University of Washington.
  • On 4th-6th October, Tuulikki Kurki gave a keynote lecture "Narrating Ambivalence and the In-betweenness of Identities and Belonging in the Finnish Russian National Borderlands" in the conference "Negotiations of Belonging. VII International Conference of Young Folklorists" in Narva, Estonia. The conference was organized by the University of Tartu Narva College. Link to the lecture (Youtube).
  • The project organized a writing workshop for the project researchers in Nehvo Guard House in June.   • Kirsi Laurén and Tuulikki Kurki participated in Kulttuurintutkimuksen päivät in the University of Jyväskylä 22nd-23th May 2017. Kirsi Laurén presented a paper "Rajaseudun ympäristöt traumaattisissa kertomuksissa". Tuulikki Kurki presented a paper "Hypertila ja identiteetit kirjallisuudessa Suomen ja Venäjän välisellä rajaseudulla."
  • Kirsi Laurén and Tiiu Jaago are organizing a panel "Traumatic Narratives of Losing Home" in the SIEF 2017 conference, 26th-30th March in Göttingen. The conference theme is "Ways of Dwelling: Crisis - Craft - Creativity". In the panel, Tarja Tanttu presented a paper "Making Home through Learning?   • Traumatized Borders kick off seminar was held on 20th February, 2017 at the University of Eastern Finland. On the 21st February, the seminar continues with a research seminar in the Karelian Institute. Download the program in pdf.
  • Traumatized Borders team is organizing a panel "Ääniä rajoilla - ääni, hiljaisuus, valta " in XXXVII VAKKI 2017 international symposium in VAASA, 9th-10th February 2017.   • November 4th, TB project participated a workshop "Difficult Memories - Key Terms" organized by "LIVINGMEMORIES - Living with difficult memories and diverse identities", at the University of Helsinki. Tuulikki Kurki and Saija Kaskinen presented a paper "Trauma as a research tool".
  • October 13th-14th, TB project organized a work group meeting and a research seminar in the University of Tartu, Folklore Department.
  • October 7th-8th, Tarja Tanttu gave a presentation "Suomalaisilla on paha tapa mennä niinku heti asiaan"  - Maahanmuuttaja-asiakkaiden työvoimaneuvoja luottamusta ja asiointikeskustelun hyvää ilmapiiriä rakentemassa, in Vuorovaikutuksentutkimuksen päivät, in University of Tampere.
  • September 28th-29th, Tuulikki Kurki gave a presentation "Border Crossing as an Experience and as a Cultural Representation" in the conference "Interpreting European Crisis and Its Consequences for Bordering, Mobilities, and Cultural Encounters", organized by BOMOCULT, in University of Eastern Finland.
  • September 1st, TB project started it work at the Karelian Institute, University of Eastern Finland.
  • June 3rd, TB project received a positive funding from the Academy of Finland (Decision 297533).
