Kai Peiponen, PhD, Professor
Kai Peiponen got his MSc in 1977 and PhD in 1982 in the University of Joensuu and DSc(technology) in 2009 in the University of Oulu. He has been a professor of optical materials since 1993 at the University of Joensuu, adjunct professor of applied optics in Lappeenranta University of Technology since 1988, and adjunct professor of industrial optics in University of Oulu since 2008. Professor Peiponen has had long term visits to Japan for 6 months in Osaka University of Foreign Languages in 1988- 1989, for 12 months in Kyoto Industrial University in 1989-1990 and 2 months in Osaka University in 1998.
His main research interests include optical and THz spectroscopies, applied optics, materials inspection, and sensors for industry. Dr Peiponen has contributed to more than 200 original articles including various review papers. He is a co-author of five monographs on optics and a topical editor of optical materials for Applied Optics (USA) 2006 - 2012 .
Peiponen has been teaching since 1977 in universities follwing subjects: elementary physics, mechanics, analytical mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, wave motion, nuclear and elementary particle physics, relativity, field theory, mathematical methods, quantum mechanics, photonics & optics, optical spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, industrial and biomedical optics, and applications of laser physics.
Kai Peiponen was born in 1954 he is married and has two adult children.
