The physico-chemical properties of solid pharmaceutical materials play essential role in their behaviour, stability and performance throughout their whole lifetime. Prediction and interpretation of the behavior of the material under processing ,storage and delivery demand a deep understanding on the thermodynamic, kinetic and structural properties of the material. To acquire the broad basic information needed, a great variety of material characterization methods have to be employed with the knowledge of their relevance regarding the problem at hand. The group of Pharmaceutical Physics has specialized to utilize thermoanalytical methods, X-ray diffraction, calorimetry, gas adsorption and spectroscopic methods together with microscopic methods in pharmaceutical material research. The specific interests of the group are to develop nanoporous silicon as a versatile drug delivery platform, utilize porous silicon for waste water cleaning and to develop it as a new material for Li-ion batteries.
