Bachelor´s and Master´s degree in Health Promotion

Promoting health is teamwork!

The Institute of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition offers comprehensive degree studies in Health Sciences in order to promote public health and well-being at work.

The degree programme of health promotion consists of a comprehensive health promotion Bachelor's degree programme and Master’s degree studies depending on specialism. Bachelor level studies are implemented using versatile teaching and learning methods, such as online studies, which also enables studying alongside working and via a remote connection.

The scope of a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences is 180 study credits (ECTS), which means that the studies can be completed in about three years. Besides extensive studies of health promotion, the degree contains basic and intermediate studies depending on the specialism and supporting minor subject studies. Alternative specialisms at the bachelor phase include the health promotion, ergonomics and the promotion of well-being at work, and health enhancing physical activity.

The scope of a Master’s degree in Health Sciences is 120 study credits (ECTS), which means studies of about two years after completing a Bachelor’s degree. You can select one of three alternative specialisms: the promotion of public health and well-being at work, Master of Public Health Master's degree programme in English, and Master's degree studies on health-enhancing physical activity in the academic subject of sports medicine. A Master’s degree in Health Sciences contains, for example, advanced studies depending on the specialism and supporting studies.

A Master’s degree in Health Sciences is not preparatory training for an occupation, but it offers skills in order to act as an expert both in Finland and internationally. Depending on the specialism, a student can choose to work in research, teaching and expert duties, or aim to become an entrepreneur in the health and well-being sector.
