4th Karelia Symposium - Building with Wood: Citius, altius, levius
Time and place: 26 April 2018 at 9.00 a.m. - 6 p.m., University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio campus, Technopolis Auditorium (Microkatu 1 A, FI-70210 KUOPIO)
The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) and Teollisuusneuvos Heikki Väänänen's Fund organize the 4th Karelia Symposium under the theme “Building with Wood: faster, higher, lighter”.
Key note lectures of the morning session will cover the environmental impacts of urban construction, challenges and opportunities of wood as a construction material, and utilization of innovative hybrid structures and digitalization in light-weight building construction. The afternoon is dedicated to the researchers of the UEF. Selected PhD and MSc students working in the field of wood materials science will present their topical research projects.
Posters are invited to a poster exhibition, where anyone can showcase his/her research findings. Audience votes for the best poster, which will be awarded.
Grant decisions for wood science research at UEF, provided by Teollisuusneuvos Heikki Väänänen’s Fund, will be published in Karelia Symposium.

Coffee and refreshments are complimentary, but the lunch has to be paid by yourself.
Free bus transportation from University of Eastern Finland Joensuu campus to Symposium venue is provided to participants. Bus leaves at Carelia parking place (Yliopistokatu 2, Joensuu) on 26 April at 6:30 a.m. and from Kuopio back to Joensuu at 5.30 p.m.
