5th Karelia Symposium - New future of wood products

Time and place: 8 April 2019 at 9.00 a.m. - 5.30 p.m., University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu Science Park, Louhela Auditorium (Länsikatu 15, FI-80110 Joensuu)

The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) and Teollisuusneuvos Heikki Väänänen's Fund organize the 5th Karelia Symposium under the theme “New future of wood products”.

The topic of the Symposium concerns the developing scenarios of researching and producing new products from wood presented by leading specialists of the field. Bioeconomy is experiencing in a growing way a transformation from fossil-based products to products made from renewable and recyclable raw materials. This requires new basic and applied research as well as innovation activity to produce products such as  textiles made from wood fibers, bioplastics and biocomposites based on wood materials and also other advanced wood materials. These products have a remarkable global market potential.

Posters are invited to a poster exhibition, where anyone can showcase his/her research findings. Audience votes for the best poster, which will be awarded.

Grant decisions for wood science research at UEF, provided by Teollisuusneuvos Heikki Väänänen’s Fund, will be published in Karelia Symposium.

Official language: English.

Registration deadline is 25 March 2019.
