Pekka E. Hirvonen, PhD, University lecturer, Docent

Pekka E. Hirvonen received his Master's degree from the University of Joensuu in 1996 with the pedagogical studies of the subject teacher, got his Licentiate degree in 1999, and his Ph.D. in physics in 2003. His long term scientific visits to foreign universities: over 12 months stay in Sheffield Hallam University, UK.

Since 1996 he has been actively involved in the subjects of physics and physics teacher education. He is the leader of Physics Education Research Group (PERG) of UEF and the education unit of the department. He is a vice president of the Finnish Mathematics and Science Education Association and a board member of the Finnish Graduate School of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry Education. He has published over thirty refereed articles on international journals, books, and Finnish publication series.

His teaching experience includes several courses of elementary teacher education. He designed and implemented the didactical master studies for in-service and pre-service teachers between 2001 and 2007. At the moment he is in charge of master studies for physics teachers and some other courses e.g. thermal physics.
