School of Forest Sciences - internationally renowned unit

University of Eastern Finland School of Forest Sciences is internationally renowned unit of higher education and research. Our education has solid foundations in contemporary research and we train responsible experts for global forestry and environmental issues. Our research themes are forest and peatland ecology; silviculture and forest management; forest planning and inventory; remote sensing and airborne laser scanning applications; forest technology and timber harvesting logistics; wood technology and wood materials science; and bioeconomy and biotechnology.

In 2015 our enrolment was 202 Bachelor students, 124 Master's students and 72 doctoral students. Of all the MSc and DSc students 48 per cent were international students representing over 40 nationalities. Additionally, we enroll annually about 50 exchange students who mostly come from European countries through the Erasmus+ student exchange networks.

We have one Bachelor of Science programme and five Master of Science programmes: BSc in Forest Sciences (offered in Finnish language), MSc in Forest Sciences (Finnish), MSc in Wood Materials Science (English), MSc Forestry CBU (English), MSc European Forestry (English) and Transatlantic Forestry Master (English). Furthermore, we offer doctoral education in DSc in Forest and Bioresources (English) programme.

In addition to our degree students and exchange students we have frequently have visiting researchers and experts from universities and research institutes in Russia, Canada, China, Brazil and Europe; but also from developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
