FiDiPro professors

The Finland Distinguished Professor Programme, FiDiPro, is a joint funding programme of the Academy of Finland and Tekes, which seeks to enable distinguished researchers, both international and expatriates to work and team up with the 'best of the best' in Finnish academic research.

FiDiPro researchers at the University of Eastern Finland

Dr Douglas Worsnop, Aerodyne Research Inc. (USA), funding period 2010-2015

Dr Douglas Worsnop is regarded as a word-leading scientist in the field of atmospheric aerosols. Dr Worsnop is especially experienced in carrying out complex field studies. Dr Worsnop is involved in a project which addresses the importance of aerosol particles on climate change and on human health with particular focus on the effect of biogenic aerosols on global small aerosol load. Despite considerable efforts to analyse the chemical compounds behind formation and growth of freshly produces aerosol particles, the actual specific pathways are not experimentally verified. The project will complete our present knowledge and give outstanding opportunity to find solutions to so far unknown problems. This collaborative project between the University of Helsinki, the Finnish Meteorological Institute and the University of Eastern Finland is led by Academy Professor Markku Kulmala of the University of Helsinki. The contact person of the project at the University of Eastern Finland is Professor Ari Laaksonen.

FiDiPro Professor Tiina Reponen, Center for Health-Related Aerosol Studies, Department of Environmental Health, University of Cincinnati, USA. Funding period 2012-2015
Research project: Development of bioaerosol testing facility - Application for modelling and controlling of indoor air
The main goal of the proposed project is to develop a bioaerosol testing facility in Finland. Partnership network will be developed that through technology transfer from basic and applied bioaerosol sciences leads to product development and control of airborne microbiological risks in residential, occupational, industrial, accidental, and national safety applications. The facility will have multiple applications and be used by industry and research institutes for research and development that targets minimizing of microbial contamination in indoor air. The contact person of the project at the University of Eastern Finland is  Professor Pertti Pasanen.
