Moodle Environment for Students

The University of Eastern Finland uses several Moodle environments. The old Moodle environments of the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio will be shut down during the autumn 2010. The teacher of the course will tell you in which Moodle your course can be found in and what the required enrolment key is.

  • UEF Moodle   http://moodle.uef.fi- All UEF courses with an ECTS credit workload can be found in this Moodle environment, which can be accessed with the UEF username and password.
  • Aducate Moodle https://moodle.aducate.fi - All courses relating to the activities of Aducate can be found in this Moodle environment, which can be accessed with the UEF username and password.
  • Project Moodle http://moodlegroups.uef.fi - All other courses relating to the activities of the UEF can be found in this Moodle environment, which can be accessed with the UEF username and password.
  • Joensuu Moodle http://moodle.joensuu.fi - Can be accessed with the JOYAD username and password, or with an ext username and password.
  • Kuopio Moodle http://moodle.uku.fi - Can be accessed with the Hytti/Messi username and password, or with a separate username and password.

Starting to Use Moodle – UEF Staff and Students


The staff and students are authenticated in the UEF, Aducate and Project Moodle by their UEF username and password. You will be asked to give some basic information at the first login, after which you can start using Moodle.

  1. Go to the home page of the Moodle you wish to use
  2. If you have a UEF username and password, click the Login button with the University of Eastern Finland logo on it. After you click the button, you will be directed to the UEF Shibboleth Login service.
  3. Or, if you have a separate username and password for Moodle, click the M Login button.
  4. Or, if you are using the HAKA Login, see more detailed instructions.
  5. Enter your username and password and then click the Log in >>" button
  6. If you are successfully authenticated, you will be directed to Moodle.
  7. At the first loginyou are asked to
    • Fill out your profile (give at least your first name and last name, email address, city and description, and then click the Update Profile button.
    • Agree the copyright agreement for students. If you don’t agree to the terms of the agreement, you will not be able to proceed in Moodle.

After this, you will be directed to the Moodle front page, at the centre of which you will find user instructions. Click the My Courses link on the left to view the courses on which you have been given access to.

Enrolling on Courses

When you have successfully logged in to Moodle, you will see a list of courses at the centre of the front page. The list of courses shows all schools and departments in Moodle. By clicking a school / department, you can view the courses offered. If you have already enrolled on a course, only your own courses will be displayed at the centre of the page.

Find the course on which you wish to enrol, click its name and Moodle will ask you if you wish to enrol on it. Click ’Yes’.

If the course has an enrolment key, Moodle will ask you to give this key when you try to enrol on it. The teacher of the course will give the enrolment key to the course participants. You only need to give the enrolment key at the first login on the course. If you should have teacher rights on the course, only the person in charge of the course can give you these rights.
