Lecture series in photonics showcases latest practical applications

This October-November, the Department of Physics and Mathematics of the University of Eastern Finland will run a lecture series in photonics, showcasing the latest practical applications in the field. The series comprises 15 presentations given by visiting lecturers, most of them coming companies operating in the photonics sector.

The topics of the lectures include remote sensing of forests, online water quality measurements, X-ray optics, laser guns in sports, augmented reality lenses, airborne cameras and underwater drones, flat displays, eye tracking, and fibre optics.

“The lecture series constitutes part of our international Master’s Degree Programme in Photonics, which seeks to bridge the gap not only between research and practical applications, but also between students and companies,” says Professor Jyrki Saarinen from the Department of Physics and Mathematics.

The lecture series is open to everyone and free of charge. The lectures will be held in English.
