The closing of the MDP in Cultural Diversity will be phased over the following years. There is no intake of new students into the programme, and therefore spring semester 2012 is the last active semester of the programme. However, the programme will be officially open until the end of the year 2014 for students' graduation.

The CD programme will be replaced by the new MDP programme Border Crossings: Global and Local Societies in Transition: www.uef.fi/bordercrossings

Other current matters:

During his leave of absence (year 2011), University Lecturer Jarmo Houtsonen's courses, Research Methods in Sociology and Written Exam: Methodology, are instructed by University Lecturer Päivi Harinen.

Travel grant

Students in the International Master’s Degree Programme in Cultural Diversity may be given a small travel grant upon application. The trip for which the grant may be given must advance the student's thesis. The application may be informal; however, it should list the purpose and destination of the trip and the applicant should explain clearly how the trip advances his or her thesis. When applying for a travel grant for a science event, the applicant should append a copy of the organiser's letter of acceptance to the application. The need and amount of the travel grant will be assessed case-specifically. Traveller will be reimbursed for his/her expenses in return for receipts. The maximum amount of the travel grant, however, is € 500.

Travel grant is open for applications until the end of the year 2011.

Cultural Diversity programme will not admit new students for the academic year 2011 - 2012.
