School of Computing is one of the biggest departments of the University of Eastern Finland with its about 120 employees. It is situated on two campuses: Joensuu (Science Park) and Kuopio (Technopolis). The Head of the Department is professor Jussi Parkkinen and the Vice Head is professor Matti Nykänen.

The teaching in Kuopio campus focuses in BSc  and Finnish MSc education, where students can specialize in Software Engineering and Computational Intelligence. The teaching in Joensuu focuses on teachers of Information Technology and English MSc education, where students can specialize on Media Computing, Software Engineering and Educational Technologies.

The reserch of the Department focuses on Media Computing and Software Engineering, which have research groups on both campuses, and Educational Technology which has research group on the Joensuu campus.

The Department has also a second subject, Statistics, where it is possible to do BSc and MSc degrees. The reserch on Statistcs focuses on applications in demography, economy and forest sciences.

The third subject of the department is Cognitive Science, which offers Minor studies.

The HIS - Healtcare Information Systems Research and Development Unit is also part of the department.

The Department is part of the ECSE East Finland Graduate School in Computer Science and Engineering.
